Hailed as an “expressive, intelligent, and meticulous performer,” Korean-born Canadian-American pianist Haewon Yang is sought after for her flexibility across different genres and carefully studied interpretations. She has won top recognitions for her performances and academic work from organizations like the Shean Music Competition, Music Teacher’s National Association, Indiana University Concerto Competition, the Canadian Music Competition, Indianapolis Matinee Musicale, and the Korean Canadian Scholarship Foundation.

Haewon’s programs are known to include the depth of the piano repertoire, from the familiar to the unknown. Working closely alongside composers, she has presented many world premieres and new works new works to audiences around North America, as one of her passions is to bring new and under-represented composers into the spotlight through her performances. Her debut album was released in 2025 through Navona recordings, which features the complete solo piano repertoire of American composer Harry Bulow.

As an active performer, Haewon has been invited to many venues across North America. Recent highlights include performing C. Saint-Saens’ Second Piano Concerto with the Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra in April 2025 and S. Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto with the Santa Fe Community Orchestra in March 2024.

She has given guest artist recitals with the New Mexico Performing Arts Society, the Salon Concerts at Klavier has in New York, NY, the Southwest Arts Recital Series in Santa Fe, NM, the Tippecanoe Chamber Music Festival in West Lafayette, IN and at Purdue University, Butler University, Taylor University, Earlham College, Indiana University East, and Franklin College. Broadcasts of her performances have been aired on WCTV in Wayne County, Indiana.

After getting a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with distinction and full scholarship from the University of Toronto, Haewon went on to complete graduate degrees with full financial support from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, completing with a Doctor of Music in Piano Performance and Literature, with a Minor in Music Education. Her doctoral research focused on the analysis of piano compositions of child prodigy composers, which included the celebrated living composer and pianist Emile Naoumoff. Haewon attributes the entirety of her pianistic formation and musical training to her teachers Paulette Price, Marietta Orlov, and Arnaldo Cohen.

Alongside performing, Haewon has a heart for teaching, and has previously held faculty positions at the University of New Mexico – Los Alamos campus, Indiana University East, and the Young Pianist Program at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She is active in the music teacher community and served as the Northeast-I District Vice-President of the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico, and President of the Los Alamos Music Teachers Association, both of which are affiliated with the Music Teachers National Association.

Haewon currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana, and calls Ottawa, Canada home. She maintains an active performing and private teaching studio.
