Teaching

Welcome! I have been teaching private piano and theory lessons for over 20 years. I have taught from beginners to advance students, pre-college to collegiate levels, with student ages ranging from 4 to 65! Although my private studio mainly consists of pre-college students, I can take a few committed adult students as my schedule allows.

Students of all levels and goals are welcome to my studio, but I do expect consistent practicing and dedication from all of my students. I am more than happy to prepare students for competitions, festivals, and exams (like RCM/ABRSM), but it is not mandatory. However, I do ask all students to perform in my studio recitals which happen once or twice annually.

I currently have a waitlist for private lessons in-person in Fishers, IN. Please contact me if you would like to start lessons with me!

Teaching Philosophy

I am experienced in teaching all levels of piano from beginners to advanced, all ages from pre-college to collegiate and adult students, music majors and non-majors, and in a variety of teaching settings, including classroom and private instruction.

I believe that teaching should be based around open communication and constant dialogue with my students. My students know me as a nurturer and a guide in their journey on becoming independent and creative musicians. My teaching emphasizes effective practice strategies, and musical inspiration that comes from a deeper knowledge of the music. As I get to know each student, I hope to personalize my approach to accommodate for their interests and abilities, and to find the best method in which they learn the most effectively.

I have prepared many students to reach the goals that they have set for themselves in their musical careers. Many of my students have gone on to give excellent performances, achieved top awards at competitions, as well as successfully passing keyboard exams for required university programs.

I am an active member in the Music Teachers National Association, and have served as the District Vice President of the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico (2022-2024) and President of the Los Alamos Music Teachers Association (2024-2025).

I have taught as an Adjunct Faculty at the University of New Mexico, Los Alamos and Indiana University East, and at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as the Assistant Instructor in the piano department and faculty of the Young Pianist Program. I also have a minor in music education and a level 1 Kodaly instructor certificate.

With these experiences under my belt, I aim to create an exciting and valuable learning environment in each and every teaching situation I come across!
